Abbottabad, Pakistan

President Obama announced late Sunday that Osama bin Laden, the leader of Al Qaeda responsible for the Sept. 11 attacks, was killed in a firefight during an operation he ordered Sunday inside Pakistan, ending a 10-year manhunt for the world’s most wanted terrorist. American officials were in possession of his body, he said.

“On nights like this one, ‘’ the president said, “we can say that justice has been done.’’

The fate of Ayman al-Zawahiri, the Al Qaeda number two in command, was unclear.

The death of Mr. Bin Laden is a defining moment in the American-led war on terrorism. What remains to be seen is whether the death of the leader of Al Qaeda galvanizes his followers by turning him into a martyr, or whether it serves as a turning of the page in the war in Afghanistan and gives further impetus to the Obama administration to bring American troops home.

French Ban on Face-Covering Islamic Veils Takes Effect http://www.stopshariahnow.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1544:french-ban-on-face-covering-islamic-veils-takes-effect&catid=89:good-news&Itemid=123 http://www.stopshariahnow.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1544:french-ban-on-face-covering-islamic-veils-takes-effect&catid=89:good-news&Itemid=123

Paris, France

France’s new ban on Islamic face veils was met with a burst of defiance Monday, as several women appeared veiled in front of Paris' Notre Dame Cathedral and two were detained for taking part in an unauthorized protest.

France on Monday became the first country to ban the veils anywhere in public, from outdoor marketplaces to the sidewalks and boutiques of the Champs-Elysees.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy set the wheels in motion for the ban nearly two years ago, saying the veils imprison women and contradict this secular nation’s values of dignity and equality. The ban enjoyed wide public support when it was approved by parliament last year.

Though only a very small minority of France’s at least 5 million Muslims wear the veil, many Muslims see the ban as a stigma against the country’s No. 2 religion.

Washington, D.C.

In stunning testimony on Capitol Hill, the head of the FBI explained his agency has cut off ties to the most influential Muslim organization in America due to concerns over its leaders' association with terrorism.

Since the Justice Department linked the Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations to a 2008 terror-finance case, the FBI has refused to work directly with the group's national office or any of its 30-plus chapters across the country.

Wednesday's hearing held by the House Judiciary Committee marked the first time FBI Director Robert Mueller has narrowed down the cause of concern to CAIR's "national leadership."

"We have no formal relationship with CAIR because of concerns with regard to the national leadership," Mueller testified.

CAIR's current executive director is Nihad Awad.

David Cameron today pledged to make Britain ‘a lot less’ tolerant towards Islamic extremists who whip up hatred against the West.

In a major speech on terrorism, the Prime Minister argued that Britain has been too ‘passive’ towards organisations and preachers who poison the minds of young Muslims.

Mr Cameron said Britain needs to be less tolerant and more judgemental when faced with ideologies that threaten the country’s basic values. David Cameron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel at the International Conference on Security Policy in Munich today. 'Frankly, we need a lot less of the passive tolerance of recent years and much more active, muscular liberalism,' the Prime Minister said

Signalling a major departure from Labour’s softly-softly approach, he suggested that to ‘belong’ in Britain, individuals must sign up to core values such as freedom of speech, the rule of law and democracy.

In a barely-concealed attack on the opposition, he will say: ‘It’s time to turn the page on the failed policies of the past.’

President Nicholas Sarkozy announced his opposition of full-face veils in a speech to a joint session of the French Parliament last year, saying, "The burqa is not welcome in French territory...In our country, we cannot accept that women be prisoners behind a screen, cut off from all social life, deprived of all identity."

The law will come into force early next year if it is not overturned by senior judges. The bill had already cleared the lower house in July and was passed by the Senate with 246 votes to one.

The text makes no mention of Islam, but President Nicolas Sarkozy's government promoted the law as a means to protect women from being forced to wear Muslim full-face veils such as the burqa or the niqab.

France's five-million-strong Muslim minority is Western Europe's largest, but fewer than 2,000 women are believed actually to wear a full face veil. Many Muslim leaders have said they support neither the veil nor the law banning it.

It was enacted to guarantee that the enemies of freedom fail to silence our free speech. The U.S. media is now free to resume its role in effort to foil further attacks on Americans at home and abroad and to prevent the growing threat of the Islamic agenda.”

The Cutting Edge News

Former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, is no stranger to the Islamic agenda. As the Quartet's special envoy to the Middle East, his recent statement, "If these people could have killed 30,000 or 300,000 [on 9/11], they would have," should serve as a wakeup call. While Blair recognizes that "Islam's roots are deep, its tentacles are long,” he failed to mention the role that Britain's libel laws play in helping radical Muslims to shield their activities.

Soon after the attacks on the U.S. on 9/11, wealthy financiers of al Qaeda, especially from Saudi Arabia, began using Britain’s plaintiff-friendly libel laws and judges to muzzle the media from exposing national security threats, especially the names of al Qaeda’s financiers. Their lawfare have made London the Mecca of libel tourism, and England’s libel bar rich.

Their tactics were so effective that mere threat of suit is often enough to compel a pre-trial confidential settlement especially by American beleaguered researchers, investigators, journalists, publishers, bloggers and others, who deprived of their Constitutional free speech rights, wish to avoid steep legal costs and unjustified reputational ruin.

Libel tourism in the U.K. chilled the media’s commitment to shed light on matters of national security, depriving the public of important information and preventing critical debate. It causes investigative journalists and authors to stay away from reporting on terror financiers, and publishers to shun controversial subjects and authors.

The bill also empowers authors and publishers to clear their names by showing that a foreign judgment is not in line with American law, even when the foreign plaintiff has not tried to enforce the judgment in the United States.”

By Dr. Rachel Ehrenfeld
Washington, D.C.

A bill to protect authors, journalists, and publishers from “libel tourism” recently passed both houses of Congress. The bill, known as the SPEECH Act, prevents lawsuits brought against American writers in foreign courts from limiting free speech in America. The Securing the Protection of our Enduring and Established Constitutional Heritage or SPEECH Act passed the Senate and House in July.

Libel tourism refers to bringing a defamation lawsuit in a foreign country that is unrelated to the published material and where protection of free speech is weaker than in the United States. The goal is usually to silence or intimidate the journalist or author. Recent defamation lawsuits in the U.K. and Canada brought against American authors spurred legislators to take action.

Director of the American Center for Democracy Dr. Rachel Ehrenfeld, who documents and publishes terrorist organization’s funding sources, has been campaigning for protection from the judgments of foreign courts. After she exposed how Saudi billionaire Khalid bin Mahfouz funded al-Qaeda, Hamas, and other terrorist organizations in her 2003 book "Funding Evil: How Terrorism is Financed and How to Stop It," Mahfouz sued her for libel in London.
